Warring in the Spirit by Frederick Hoehn, copyright 2016, all rights reserved. Chapter 1 As one of His Priests, the Lord has given me a teaching ministry. Did you ever have a drain problem? I think most people have had drain problems, unless they're very young. Now, this drain problem wasn't ruining my life, but it surely was inconvenient. I had a satisfactory apartment in one city, but then the Manager went crazy, so I had to leave. I think the man ruined himself with pornography. What a pity. After traveling from one city to another, seeking a satisfactory place to live, I was praying about where I should live. Some people, by the time they've reached my age, as a senior citizen, already have their own home, on a piece of property. Or, at least, they're paying off the mortgage. But things just didn't go that way for me. My Dad had a career with an Aerospace company. He retired from there and got a pension, plus his Social Security retirement benefits. Mom and Dad bought a home in the San Fernando Valley, Calif., where I grew up. Actually, I later worked for the same employer, at a different facility. But after a while, I felt it was best to move on to something else. When it came time for me to retire, no pension except for Social Security retirement benefits. I contacted a place in a Texas town where I had lived before, and told them when I'd be arriving. One of the employees there said they'd have a place ready for me. But when I arrived, the place wasn't ready. The TV didn't work, and the microwave oven that should have been there was not there. I went to a different town. At another Texas town, I stayed a night at a motel. That night, as I lay in bed, it seemed that the Lord showed me a picture of something in a Nebraska city that I was aware of. So, trying to cooperate with the Lord, I traveled to that city. I found a room to rent, and rented it. But the TV didn't work right. After a few days, the Maintenance man came around. I told him about the TV, and he fixed the problem. But there was another problem with the sink drain. When someone upstairs would let water out of their sink, it would come down to my sink. And also, if I opened the faucet, some water would go down the drain, but my sink would be increasingly filled with water, instead of draining properly. The problem was not in the trap under my sink. The problem was in the drain pipe in the wall that went down to the sewer. I didn't really want a crew coming into my place to work on the plumbing problem. So I stuck, for several weeks, with just spiritual warfare. I asked the Lord to solve the problem, in Jesus' name. I commanded the problem to go away, in Jesus' name. I commanded the problem to be plucked up roots and all, and to be thrown into the sea, as per Luke 17:6-- And the Lord said, "If you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you can say to this sycamore tree, Be plucked up roots and all, and be planted in the sea, and it will obey you." (Luke 17:6) But I didn't immediately get the results I desired. I continued on with spiritual warfare, commanding the problem to go away. Then yesterday, I went out into the hall. There was a man there who seemed to be a Maintenance Man. I asked the Lord if I should talk to him about the problem. It seemed that the Lord said "Yes." But the man said he wasn't the regular Maintenance Man, he was a Plumber. I said, "That's what I need, is a Plumber," and told him about the problem. I asked if he had a Plumber's snake, and he did. But he wanted to clear it with the Manager. So I went to the Manager, and the Manager said, OK for the Plumber to work on my drain problem. While the Plumber was using the Plumber's electrically powered snake, he said the problem wasn't being very friendly, meaning that he didn't seem to be easily solving the problem. I spoke quietly while the Plumber was working, "Now, what this guy is doing will work. Evil spirits, take your hands off this business." The Plumber said my drain problem was the worst of the three problems at that building, but when he left, my problem was solved. Someone might say, "But Fred, you didn't get a miracle, that was just the natural use of a plumbing tool to solve a problem." I believe that's incorrect. The Plumber solved the problem after my several weeks of spiritual warfare and prayer. The Plumber, after all, could have come and gone, solving those other two problems without my even knowing he had been in the building. I believe God sent me a Plumber, in answer to my prayers, and my spiritual warfare. Chapter 2 And where did I get the idea for spiritual warfare? From the Bible. From the words of Jesus. But I'm sure there are lots of Christians who don't involve themselves in spiritual warfare. I believe that those Christians are putting up with things that they need not put up with because of their refusal to do like Jesus said, and speak to the mountain (Mark 11:23), or speak to the sycamore tree (Luke 17:6). Indeed, some Christians are dying of diseases that they should have been healed of. Don't say, "Well, God can heal me if he wants to." Yes, God can heal you, and he wants to, but Jesus said, "Seek and you shall find." (Matt chapt 7) Don't blame God for not healing you if you haven't been seeking the Lord on the subject of healing. Dr. Norvel Hayes said, "If you have cancer, that's your mountain, COMMAND IT TO GO." (Mark 11:23) You can command a cancer to go, or any other sickness or affliction, or any other problem. But put your faith with your words, according to Mark chapter 11, like Kenneth E. Hagin did to get rid of a disease that would have killed him before he reached age 21. But Hagin lived to his mid-eighties. When I was a boy, her sister, that was closest to my Mother, died of cancer. But I think that probably at that time, Norvel Hayes had not yet said, "If you have CANCER, that's your MOUNTAIN. COMMAND IT TO GO." (based on Mark 11:23) And yet, my Aunt was Pentecostal, Full Gospel, and loved the Lord. The Pentecostals believe in divine healing. Both sisters were part of Angelus Temple church in Los Angeles, Calif. My Mother heard Brother Smith Wigglesworth speak at that church. Miracles of healing were pretty much a normal thing at that church for a period of time. Wigglesworth was a great man of God who got many people born again and also healed of diseases. There's an excellent book about him from Gospel Publishing House, Springfield, MO, "Smith Wigglesworth, Apostle of Faith," by Frodsham. As a boy, I remember seeing my Grandmother's ankle, when the bandages were taken off. It looked as though someone had taken a sharpened spoon and gouged out a scoop from the ankle. Then Grandmother was prayed for and got healed. The ankle then looked like a normal, healthy, pink-skinned ankle. Thank you, Lord Jesus! The Founder of Angelus Temple, of course, was Aimee Semple McPherson. They called her "Sister." Many of the miracles, apparently, came through Sister McPherson. But we ought not to lose sight of the fact that although the miracles seem to mainly be coming through one person, God is still the Healer, with or without the presence of that human person. For my Aunt, there was no question that God could heal. But sometimes people aren't sure whether it's God's will to heal them. IF YOU'RE A CHRISTIAN, GOD WANTS YOU HEALED. How can you be sure of that, Brother Fred? Because Jesus said, "I have come so they can have life, and so they can have it more abundantly." (John 10:10) You're not enjoying abundant life if you have some disease. Exo 15:26 says, "I am the Lord who heals you." "By whose stripes you were healed." (1 Pet 2:24) (stripes of the whip) ___Romans chapter 8 1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don't walk after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. The Mosaic law brings sickness to sinners. (Deut chapt 28) Romans 8:2 frees us from that, and this passage from Galatians-- 13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us, for it is written, "Cursed is everyone that hangs on a tree," 14 So that the blessing of Abraham would come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ, so that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. (from Gal chapt 3) And other Bible promises on healing. God even wants sinners healed. And if a sinner gets healed, there's a good chance that they'll turn to the Lord for salvation. Christians are more likely to get healed, though, because they probably have stronger faith than unbelievers. But another important issue is whether the Christian knows what to do to get healing. Norvel Hayes was an orphan who struggled to survive. His Mother had died of cancer. After Norvel became fairly prosperous financially, he made some effort to seek the Lord. It began to look like the Lord had a public ministry for brother Norvel. But Norvel still had some bitterness in his heart toward the Lord. Norvel prayed like this, "Lord, do you want me to stand up in front of people and tell them about you? Why did you kill my Mother with cancer?" After praying like that for about three days, the Lord answered Norvel. The Lord said, "Son, I didn't kill your Mother with cancer. I had nothing to do with it. The Devil put those tumors in your Mother's body, and your Mother couldn't get healed because she had never been taught how to receive healing from God." Norvel's Mother had been a wonderful Christian woman, but she didn't know what to do for healing. The churches aren't always teaching the Christians everything that we need to know. Hosea 4:6 says-- "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge..." What you don't know can hurt you. What you don't know could kill you. Of course, my Aunt wasn't destroyed, she just went to heaven prematurely. But while she was on Earth, Earth was a better place because of her presence here. Here is a passage from Ephesians chapt 4-- 10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, so that he would fill all things.) 11 And he gave some apostles, and some prophets, and some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ, 13 Until we all come to be united in the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to human perfection, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 So that from now on, we won't anymore be children, tossed back and forth, and carried around by every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, by which they wait in ambush to deceive, 15 But speaking the truth in love, will grow up into him in all things, who is the head, who is Christ, 16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplies, according to the effective working in the measure of every part, makes increase of the body to the building up of itself in love. Notice in vs 11 the five ministries, one of which is Teachers. As a boy, at my church, I had Sunday School Teachers, and I'm sure that they tried to do a good job. But I found out later that the Sunday School Teachers left a few things out, such as speaking to the mountain. (Mrk 11:23) And so I recommend this: Don't just trust that you're getting everything that you need to be taught from your church. Seek the Lord for yourself. And seek out good teaching from the best Teachers. One of God's five ministries is Teachers. (Eph chapt 4) In the category of Teachers, I recommend Kenneth E. Hagin, Lester Sumrall, and Norvel Hayes. I also recommend the little book by Charles Capps, "God's Creative Power Will Work For You." Those four people have these four websites, respectively: Rhema.org, lesea.com, nhm.cc, CharlesCapps.com K.E. Hagin is one of the foremost authorities on divine healing, and received a miracle of healing himself as a young man. K.E. Hagin and Norvel Hayes also have books at Amazon.com We should have the whole armor of God, as per Eph chapt 6-- 11 Put on the whole armor of God, so you'll be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we don't wrestle against flesh and blood, but against princedoms, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against wicked spirits in high places. 13 So, take to yourselves the whole armor of God, so that you'll be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your midsections clothed with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 And for shoes, the preparation of the gospel of peace, 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, with which you'll be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and staying awake regarding that, with all perseverance and supplication for all saints, Notice the four categories of demons above in vs 12. The Lord wants us Christians to cast demons out of people, and has given us the authority to do so in Luke 10:19, and in Mark 16:17,18 You command the demon to go, in Jesus' name. But look up the above two scripture passages for yourself so that you are sure that you have the authority. Beside the speaking to the mountain (Mrk 11:23), there is also binding and loosing. "...whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." (Matt 16:19) In other words, heaven backs you up when you bind and loose. Binding and loosing is one form of spiritual warfare. Spiritual warfare is confronting the enemy using the authority that the Lord has given us over all the power of the enemy. (Luke 10:19) You take authority over the enemy with the words that you speak, and tell those demons and Satan to stop doing what they're trying to do. To cease in their operations and desist in their maneuvers. You put your faith with your words and expect it to happen according to your spoken words. You can speak things into existence, according to Mrk 11:23-- 23 For truly I say to you, that whoever shall say to this mountain, be removed, and be thrown into the sea, and doesn't doubt in his heart, but believes that the things that he says shall happen, he shall have whatever he says. 24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you desire, when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them. 25 And when you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive your trespasses. And notice vs 24. Put your faith with your prayers. And notice vs 25. We must forgive others so that God will forgive our trespasses. "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." (Rom 10:17) Get more of the word of God to strengthen your faith. And faith is built up by praying in unknown tongues, Jude vs 20. Faith can be strengthened by prayer and fasting, Matt chapt 17, vs 20,21. You'll pray more effectively in unknown tongues (Rom 8:26) You'll be a stronger Christian with the Baptism with the Holy Ghost. (Acts 1:8) The praying in unknown tongues is done by Christians who have received the Baptism with the Holy Ghost, as per Acts chapt 2, chapt 10, and chapt 19. The baptizer with the Holy Ghost is Jesus. Ask the Lord Jesus to baptize you with the Holy Ghost. When you pray, believe that you receive the things you ask for, and you shall have them. (Mrk 11:24) But God doesn't make you move your mouth and tongue. The Holy Ghost will give you words to speak out in a language that you've never learned. Then you add your voice and speak out those strange words. After receiving the Baptism with the Holy Ghost, then pray some in unknown tongues every day. Charles Capps said the Lord told him, "I have told my people that they can have what they say, but instead they are saying what they have." (based on Mrk 11:23) We are made in the image of God, who spoke the worlds into existence. (Gen 1:26, Heb 1:2) So then, we also can speak things into existence. Let's not fail to speak into existence the things that we need, beside praying about them. ___Hebrews chapter 1 1 God, who at various times and in different ways spoke in the past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 Has in these last days spoken to us by his Son, whom he has appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds, After Moses left Earth and went to heaven, Joshua took over in Moses' office. Here's what God told Joshua-- "This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, so that you'll observe to do according to all that is written in it, for then you'll make your way prosperous, and then you'll have good success." (Josh 1:8) It says we should speak the word with our mouths. A guest speaker at the Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship spoke for perhaps an hour. I don't remember what he said except for this: He said the most important lesson he ever learned was just to seek the Lord for himself. Norvel Hayes said the Lord told him, "Now these are the most important words that ever came out of my mouth." And Jesus was talking about the words in Mark 16:17,18-- 17 "And these signs shall follow those who believe, in my name they'll cast out devils, they'll speak with new languages, 18 They shall pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it won't hurt them. They shall lay hands on the sick, and they'll recover." Does your church have those signs following? If not, better ask the Lord what church to go to. I think my favorite Sunday School Teacher was Amanda Rediger, who taught me the basics of Christianity, together with my precious Mother. But let's not be too tough on the Sunday School Teachers. How could they teach me what they hadn't been taught? Now with the prosperity enjoyed by many Americans, they often turn first to the doctors about health problems. I think it's a mistake. Christians should turn first to the Lord about health problems. Then if something really serious happens, you're all practiced up. Jesus said, "You MUST be born again." (John chapt 3) To become a born again Christian, obey Romans 10:9,10-- "That if you confess the Lord Jesus with your mouth, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you're saved. For with the heart man believes for righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made for salvation." Chapter 3 ___Psalm 91 1 He that dwells in the secret place of the most high shall live under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say about the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, I'll trust in him." 3 Surely he'll deliver you from the trap of the bird catcher, and from the noisome pestilence. 4 He'll cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you'll trust, his truth shall be your shield and buckler. 5 You won't be afraid for the terror by night, nor for the arrow that flies by day, 6 Nor for the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor for the destruction that wastes at noonday. 7 A thousand shall fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it won't come near you. 8 Only with your eyes shall you see the reward of the wicked. 9 Because you've made the Lord your habitation, who is my refuge, the most high, 10 No evil shall happen you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling. 11 For he'll give his angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. 12 They'll support you in their hands, so you don't dash your foot against a stone. 13 You'll tread on the lion and snake, you'll trample the young lion and the dragon under feet. 14 Because he has set his love on me, therefore I'll give him deliverance, I'll set him on high, because he has known my name. 15 He'll call on me, and I'll answer him, I'll be with him in trouble, I'll give him deliverance, and honor him. 16 I'll satisfy him with long life, and show him my salvation. ___James chapter 1 1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes that are dispersed around, greetings. 2 My brothers, count it all joy when you fall into various temptations, 3 Knowing this, that the testing of your faith works patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, so you'll be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God for it, who gives to all men liberally, and won't find fault, and it shall be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavers is like a wave of the sea driven by the wind and tossed. 7 For let that man not think that he'll receive anything from the Lord. 8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. 9 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted, 10 But the rich, in that he is made low, because as the flower of the grass he'll pass away. 11 For the sun has no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withers the grass, and the flower of it falls, and the grace of the fashion of it perishes, so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways. 12 Blessed is the man that endures temptation, for after he's been tested, he'll receive the crown of life, that the Lord has promised to those who love him. 13 Let no man say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God," for God can't be tempted with evil, nor does he tempt any man, 14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust has conceived, it produces sin, and sin when it's finished, produces death. 16 Do not err, my beloved brothers. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, nor shadow of turning. 18 He chose to father us with the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits of his creatures. 19 So, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger, 20 For the anger of man doesn't accomplish the righteousness of God. 21 So, lay apart all filthiness and the unnecessary naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like a man seeing his natural face in a mirror, 24 For he sees himself, and goes his way, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But whoever looks into the perfect law of liberty, and continues in it, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. 26 If any man among you seems to be religious, and doesn't bridle his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is for nothing. 27 Pure religion and undefiled before God the Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. ___James chapter 2 1 My brothers, don't have the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. 2 For if a man with a gold ring comes to your assembly in fancy clothes, and a poor man in dirty clothes comes in also, 3 And you have respect to him that wears the fancy clothes, and say to him, "Sit here in a good place," and say to the poor, "Stand there, or sit here under my footstool," 4 Aren't you then partial in yourselves, and have become judges with evil thoughts? 5 Listen, my beloved brothers, hasn't God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom that he has promised to those who love him? 6 But you have despised the poor. Don't rich men oppress you, and bring you before the judgment seats? 7 Don't they blaspheme that worthy name by which you're called? 8 If you fulfill the royal law according to the scripture, "You shall love your neighbor like yourself," you do well, 9 But if you have respect of persons, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as sinners. 10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. 11 For he that said, "Do not commit adultery," also said, "Do not kill." Now if you don't commit adultery, yet if you kill, you've become a breaker of the law. 12 Speak in such a way, and do, as those who'll be judged by the law of liberty. 13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that has shown no mercy, and mercy rejoices against judgment. 14 What does it profit, my brothers, though a man says he has faith, and doesn't have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister needs clothes, and lacks daily food, 16 And one of you says to them, "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled," but you don't give them the things that are needed for the body, what good is that? 17 Even so faith, if it doesn't have works, is dead, being alone. 18 Yes, a man could say, "You have faith, and I have works, show me your faith without your works, and I'll show you my faith by my works." 19 You believe that there is one God, you do well, the devils also believe, and tremble. 20 But don't you know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Wasn't Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see how faith worked with his deeds, and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness, and he was called the friend of God." 24 You see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. 25 Likewise also wasn't Rahab the prostitute justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? 26 For like the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. ___James chapter 3 1 My brothers, don't be many masters, knowing that we'll receive the greater condemnation. 2 For in many things we offend all. If any man doesn't offend in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. 3 See, we put bits in the horses' mouths, so they'll obey us, and we turn around their whole bodies. 4 Look also at the ships, which though they're so large, and are driven by fierce winds, yet they're turned around by a very small helm, wherever the captain wants. 5 Even so, the tongue is a little member, and boasts great things. See how great a matter a little fire kindles! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of sin, so is the tongue among our members that it makes dirty the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and it is set on fire by hell. 7 For every kind of animals, and of birds, and of snakes, and of things in the sea, gets tamed, and has been tamed by mankind, 8 But no man can tame the tongue, it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless God, the Father, and with it we curse men, who are made after the likeness of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be. 11 Does a fountain send out at the same place sweet water and bitter? 12 Can the fig tree, my brothers, produce olive berries? Or a vine, figs? So no fountain can yield both salt water and fresh. 13 Who is a wise man, possessing knowledge among you? Let him show out of a good lifestyle his works with meekness of wisdom. 14 But if you have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, don't glory, and don't lie against the truth. 15 This wisdom doesn't descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. 16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. 17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be reasoned with, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. 18 And the fruit of righteousness is planted in peace by those who make peace. ___James chapter 4 1 Where do wars and fightings among you come from? Don't they come from your lusts that war in your members? 2 You lust, and don't have, you kill, and desire to have, and can't obtain, you fight and war, yet you don't have, because you don't ask. 3 You ask, and don't receive, because you ask wrongly, so you can consume it on your lusts. 4 You adulterers and adulteresses, don't you know that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world is an enemy of God. 5 Do you think that the scripture says for nothing, "The spirit that lives in us lusts to envy?" 6 But he gives more grace. So he says, "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble." 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he'll run away from you. 8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double minded. 9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and cry, let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he'll lift you up. 11 Don't speak evil about each other, brothers. He that speaks evil about his brother, and judges his brother, speaks evil about the law, and judges the law, but if you judge the law, you're not a doer of the law, but a judge. 12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy, who are you that judges someone else? 13 Go on now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we'll go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and make a profit," 14 Actually, you don't know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is a puff of steam, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away. 15 For you ought to say, "Lord willing, we'll live, and do this, or that." 16 But now you rejoice in your boastings, all such rejoicing is evil. 17 Therefore to him that knows to do good, and doesn't do it, to him it is sin. ___James chapter 5 1 Go on now, you rich men, cry and howl for your miseries that shall come on you. 2 Your riches are corrupted, and your clothes are moth eaten. 3 Your gold and silver are rusted, and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh like fire. You've heaped treasure together for the last days. 4 See, the wages of the laborers who have reaped down your fields, which you've kept back by fraud, shouts, and the shouts of those who've reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabbath. 5 You've lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton, you've nourished your hearts, like in a day of slaughter. 6 You've condemned and killed the just, and he doesn't resist you. 7 Be patient therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, and has long patience for it, until he receives the early and latter rain. 8 You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is getting near. 9 Don't grudge against each other, brothers, so you won't be condemned, see, the judge stands at the door. 10 Take, my brothers, the prophets, who've spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience. 11 See, we count them happy that endure. You've heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord, that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy. 12 But above all things, my brothers, don't swear, not by heaven, nor by the earth, nor by any other oath, but let your yes be yes, and your no, no, so that you don't fall into condemnation. 13 Is anyone among you afflicted? Let him pray. Is anyone merry? Let him sing psalms. 14 Is anyone sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord, 15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up, and if he has committed sins, he'll be forgiven. 16 Confess your faults to each other, and pray for each other so you'll be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man is does a lot of good. 17 Elijah was a man subject to the same kind of passions that we are, and he prayed earnestly that it wouldn't rain, and it didn't rain on the earth for three years and six months. 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit. 19 Brothers, if any of you strays from the truth, and someone converts him, 20 Let him know, that he that converts the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
