10/12/10 Dear Jonathan: Thank you for letting us use your chess set on Saturday at the library. I've had chess sets, but because of traveling, don't have one now. Hope I spelled your name right. The other day at the Percolator, you were speaking of the Bible and saying it was subject to interpretation; that it was somewhat ambiguous. There is perhaps a bit of truth in that. There are things in the Bible that I don't totally understand. But the main truths of the Bible are not ambiguous. God's plan of salvation for mankind. How God sent his Son, The Lord Jesus Christ to earth, who was born of a virgin, who lived a sinless life, preached the gospel message of salvation by being born again (John chapt. 3), healed the sick, raised the dead, died on the cross for your sins and mine, whom God raised from the dead on the third day, who now sits at the right hand of God in heaven. There is no ambiguity about that. You can accept Jesus as savior or reject him, but if you reject, you do so at the peril of your own soul. Jesus said, "What shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul, or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? You lose your soul if you go to hell. The richest man in the world can't buy his way into heaven. And Jesus said most people go to hell, where there's weeping and gnashing of teeth, where their worms don't die, and where the fire is not quenched. If people knew they were on their way to such a place, they would become diligent about trying to avoid going there. But they don't know because they don't read the Bible. Personally, I prefer the King James Version of the Bible. Pray a prayer to God, asking him to show you clearly God's plan of salvation. The most important thing for people to do in this life is to get born again and become a Chirstian, so that when this brief life is over, they go to be with Jesus in heaven. But most people fail to do so, and go to hell, Jesus said. Fred Hoehn.
